Biography


Budapest, June 15, 1943 - July 20, 2019

He studied at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Art on the painting faculty between 1964 and 1970 under Géza Fónyi and Jenő Barcsay. He received an art teacher's diploma 1968, and then took part in further art studies.

Since then his works have constantly been exhibited in solo or group exhibitions in Hungary and in other countries. He has received several prizes for exhibitions and competitions at home as well as abroad. His works can be found in museums all over the world, in different institutes, owned by states or as part of private collections. Beside his work as a painter and graphic artist, he made the illustration of nearly 30 children books and other editions for adults.

He won Derkovits Scholarship in 1971 and a number of other Hungarian and foreign scholarships later on. He was awarded the Munkácsy Prize in 1985, Excellence Artist of the Hungarian Republic in 2000 and the Kossuth Prize in 2008. From 2012 he was a regular member of the Fine Arts Section of the Hungarian Academy of Arts.
